Common Mergansers usually nest in tree cavities. This house serves as a perfect nest box for mergansers. With its appropriate opening size, and by positioning it on a tree or post over or near water, our merganser house provides a perfect nest box for these birds by providing extra protection from predators.

The house contains a wire ladder to help the ducklings climb out. A lower side guard protects the nest when the side is open for observation. Includes wood chips for nesting material. Wood chips should be renewed each nesting cycle.

These birds breed on wooded rivers and ponds. They winter mainly on lakes and rivers, occasionally on salt water.

They breed across Canada from eastern Alaska, Manitoba and Newfoundland south in mountains to California, northern New Mexico, Great Lakes and northern New England. They winter south to northern Mexico and Georgia and also in Eurasia.
